Our Mission and vision

At Arcadia Estates, we currently harvest approximately 20,000 tons of sugar annually and manage 60 hectares of wattle and gum trees primarily for paper pulp. Our goal is to maintain high-quality cane production while diversifying into new areas such as lemons, avocados, and hemp, all grown organically without irrigation. We are committed to building a well-trained and better compensated labour force to help our surrounding community thrive.

Our progress so far

  • Computerised all records and payment systems to enhance administrative efficiency.

  • Improved machinery checks and balances, reducing waste from older, cumbersome equipment.

  • Started selling firewood to the local Eshowe community, utilizing excess wood from our wattle harvest.

  • Experimented with planting two varieties of lemons using organic methods.

  • Ordered avocado crops for 40 hectares of land to partially replace our sugar crop.

  • Experimented with our natural resources and erected a water bottling facility. We ultimately decided that this was against our ethos, and so we learn and adapt.

  • Experimented with commercial hemp as a sustainable alternative for fallow fields. The first crop was to be harvested in February 2020, but we have since discontinued hemp cultivation.
